1. German tax on gas to support energy firms

Germans are facing a new tax on natural gas use that could cost the average household several hundred euros a year and is aimed at rescuing importers slammed by Russian cutbacks tied to the war in Ukraine.

On Monday, an association of gas pipeline operators set the level at 2.4 euro cents per kilowatt hour under legislation passed by the German parliament, which had an expected range of 1 to 5 cents.

The tax on gas used to heat homes in winter and generate electricity is set to take effect in October and run through the beginning of April. It will not show up in utility bills until November or December.

2. WION Climate Tracker Study: Rain could replace snow in the Arctic

A report shows that the Arctic is warming four times faster than the rest of the planet. The rate of warming is exceptionally high in the Eurasian region of the Arctic, especially the Barren sea, which has warmed up seven times faster than the global average.

3. Afghans in Canada were traumatized one year after the Taliban takeover

In a group hoping to raise awareness for the education of women and girls in Afghanistan in a west Edmonton apartment, Karima Delijam, 32, and her 14-year-old daughter Soraya Yasa talk over tea on a calm summer day.

Despite the relaxing domestic scene, Delijam's daily reality is haunted by their traumatic flight from Afghanistan. "I have nightmares about my family, my parents, my sister," she said in an interview Thursday.

"The nightmare was about the Taliban searching after them, and they're running. They're shouting." Delijam's extended family members are still in her home country.

It has been a year since the U.S. military pulled its troops out of Afghanistan. The Taliban, a listed terrorist entity under Canadian law, seized power in the aftermath.

4. New information on the false alarm at Harry Reid International

According to authorities, Harry Reid International Airport erupted in chaos early Sunday morning after reports of an active shooter spread like wildfire among travellers who ran in all directions for their lives.

Las Vegas agencies such as TSA, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and Harry Reid International Airport authorities defend themselves against criticism

about how communications were handled during and after the incident. “They never made an announcement [on the intercom]! Alarms never went off,” said traveller Raja Harris.

Another woman, Tawanna Malpass, who got married in Las Vegas over the weekend, said she crouched behind a ticketing kiosk for thirty minutes with her elderly parents and said authorities made no intercom announcement.

5. Farage Exposes INSANE 2022 Shambles

Nigel Farage has predicted as many as 100,000 migrants could arrive in Britain this year. The UK authorities brought 386 people ashore from 12 boats on Monday,

while another 162 people on seven ships were intercepted by the French, which includes one boat on Sunday. This means that more than 4,500 people have been brought to the UK since the start of the year, according to figures collated by the PA news agency.

And Mr Farage predicts numbers will increase massively in the summer. He told Dan Wootton: "I've been calling this for a couple of years.
